Protection Against Scams & Identity Theft

Scams have significantly increased in the last several years. It seems that there is a new scam on a daily basis that you need to watch out for and a new way to trick you out of your money.

Scams typically work like this:

  • You receive a call / text message / email / social media request from someone claiming to be a security professional or service representative from a reputable financial institution.
  • The fraudsters will try to convince you to provide personal information or information about your accounts (e.g. social security number, login information, account numbers, etc.).

Things to remember when this happens:

  • No reputable financial institution will ever call you and request account access information, photo ID, proof of address, or credit card information. If you receive a call requesting this information or similar, hang up.
  • Never give out any one-time passcodes, passwords, two-factor authentication codes, or any security question answers to anyone.
  • No reputable financial institution will ever contact you via a free email account (Yahoo, Gmail, etc.), messaging apps, or social media requests.
  • Be cautious of guarantees, unregistered products, overly consistent high returns, and complex strategies.
